5 Creative Uses for Coconut Oil - Part 3

#3. Cough & Cold Ointment

With colder temperatures comes chest congestion and stuffy noses. Homemade vaporizing rub made with coconut oil does not leave the greasy residue of petroleum jelly used in commercial brands. Furthermore, you can control the strength of the vapor by decreasing or increasing the amount of essential oils.

Choose essential oils with soothing and healing properties that will clear airways and help breathing: eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, etc.

  • In a saucepan sitting in boiling water or using a double broiler, melt a few tablespoons of coconut oil, raw Shea Butter and beeswax pellets (add about half the amount of coconut oil for both the butter and beeswax).
  • Let the mixture cool for about five minutes.
  • Add a few drops of your chosen essential oils.
  • Transfer the mixture into an air-tight container and let it solidify.
